Split Wood Donations

We gratefully accept split wood donations, and, depending on the time of year and personnel availability, we may be able to arrange on-site pickup. If you have split wood to donate, please reach out to discuss how we can work together to get your donation to those in need.

As a 501(c)(3), your donation may also be tax-deductible. You will receive a donation receipt form that could be used for your year-end tax return. Please consult your tax professional for specific advice and terms.

Full Logs and Log Rounds

We’re excited to announce that we’re now accepting full logs and log rounds (including green logs) at a generously provided lot located just south of Boulder, off Highway 93. This lot offers easy access for mitigation teams and businesses, making drop-offs convenient and central.

At this time, we don’t have the resources to provide a dedicated pickup driver for these types of donations, given the high volume of mitigation in the area.

The lot offers flexible drop-off hours, and arrangements can be made on either a one-time or rolling basis. To coordinate a drop-off, please contact us via email or by using the form below.

  • Who can apply?
We encourage everyone who would encounter barriers in maintaining a firewood supply through the winter to apply!
  • Do you deliver?
Yes, all application approvals are provided with split firewood delivered right to your door, 100% free of charge. Rocky Mountain Warm Hands Initiative will never ask for payment for its services.
  • Where does Rocky Mountain Warm Hands Initiative deliver?
Currently, we are servicing the immediate foothill communities outside of Boulder and Golden, CO. We encourage applications from all over Boulder, Jefferson, and Gilpin counties!
  • Isn't logging bad for the enviroment?
We are centered in the foothills of the Rocky Mountain Range. No one appreciates the serenity of nature more than us. Rocky Mountain Warm Hands Initiative ONLY sources our firewood from sustainably harvested forestry efforts that correspond with existing fire mitigation efforts. Without these fire mitigation efforts, wildfires would become more and more prevalent. It is a win-win situation for our community!
  • Would you down trees on my property?
We appreciate everyone who reaches out to help our cause. Currently, we are unable to offer services such as tree felling. We harvest our logs from designated lots in Boulder, CO. While we always can pickup split firewood donations, we are currently not picking up full trees.
  • What kind of wood is provided?
The wood we deliver is a combination of various Colorado-sourced hardwoods and Ponderosa Pine. In an effort to fit a variety of applications, logs are cut at 12 inches. All wood is stored and seasoned to ensure moisture content is well below 20%.
  • How much wood is provided to approved applications?
Our goal is to supply as many households as possible. The amount of wood delivered depends on the submitted need statement on the application, as well as the available supply at Rocky Mountain Warm Hands Initiative. You can expect anywhere from a face cord (4ft x 8ft x 1ft), to a full cord (4ft x 8ft x 4ft).
  • Can I apply each year?
Yes! Receiving a firewood delivery for one winter has no bearing on the next. You could be approved year after year if you submit an application each year. Applications typically open around the New Year for the following winter. Applications are accepted until July.
  • When will my application get reviewed?
We collect applications immediately after submission. This collection period extends through the summer. Applicants will not be notified until August in an attempt for us to give an accurate approval letter describing the amount of wood provided. We do not prioritize early submissions. Each application will get thoroughly reviewed and considered after the application deadline in July.
  • When do you deliver the wood?
We set up deliveries as soon as possible following an approved application. Applications are approved on a rolling basis to get wood to those in need as fast as possible. Expect to receive an email at the address provided on the application to coordinate a date and time.
  • What are donations used for?
Each monetary donation goes 100% to providing more applicants with firewood for the winter! We do not pay out salaries or incentives to anyone involved with the Rocky Mountain Warm Hands Initiative. Your generous gifts go towards maintaining and obtaining the necessary equipment and disposables involved with processing the firewood and delivery.
  • Are my donations tax deductible?
Yes! We are an approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization registered with both the State of Colorado and the IRS. You may deduct charitable contributions of money or property made to Rocky Mountain Warm Hands Initiative if you itemize your deductions. Generally, you may deduct up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income, but 20 percent and 30 percent limitations apply in some cases. Consult a tax professional for more information and read this article from the IRS: https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/charitable-organizations/charitable-contribution-deductions
  • Can I donate unused firewood?
Yes! We have a whole page with a specific contact and FAQ section dedicated to this topic. Please click the button below to be directed there.
  • What does a typical volunteer day look like?
We are always excited to hear from people wanting to get involved and help! No matter your experience or abilities, there is a place for you at the Rocky Mountain Warm Hands Initiative. We can coordinate times to assist in splitting and stacking supplies, as well as loading supply from our sustainably sourced logging lots. Additionally, we would love to hear from those with existing equipment willing to provide their services and time towards building our supply.
  • Do you pickup log donations?
At this time, we don’t have the resources to provide a dedicated pickup driver for these types of donations, given the high volume of mitigation in the area. The lot offers flexible drop-off hours, and arrangements can be made on either a one-time or rolling basis. To coordinate a drop-off, please contact us via email or by using the form below.
  • What size logs can be dropped off?
The lot is large enough to accommodate a variety of sized log lengths. We can take anywhere from a utility trailer full, to a full semi-truck worth of logs. All sizes are welcome. There is plenty of room to maneuver your vehicle if you are bringing donations via dump trailer. If you are brining donations in a truck bed or utility trailer, there is equipment to unload the logs on-site.
  • Can you help unload?
There is equipment on site at the log yard to assist in removing donations timely and efficiently. Please mention that this will be needed when you coordinate a drop off.
  • What time is the yard open for drop offs?
When you reach out to coordinate, we will setup a mutually agreeable date and time for the drop-off. If you are a business or mitigation crew looking to setup a recurring donation schedule, we will look into granting you access long-term 24/7.
  • Can I set up recurring drop offs?
YES! We would love to establish long-term relationships with businesses, fire district, and open spaces crews. Once setup, you will have access to the lot as a contractor and free to drop as you please. We ask that you reach out for details and setup.
  • What if I only have a few logs?
That is okay! Even a few 6-8ft logs can provide a surprising amount of firewood! We would encourage anyone interested to reach out so we can discuss the options in more detail.
  • Where can I get a donation receipt if I drop off logs at the lot?
Once we have confirmed the drop off took place, we will do our best to email you a receipt form as promptly as possible. If you do not see this email come through in 72 hours, please email us at info@warmhandsco.org
  • Does split firewood go to the lot?
No, split firewood donations go to a different address and may be eligible for a pick-up. Use the form below to specify your split wood donation and make sure to include details on the general amount of wood and access to the site.
  • I don't see an address for the lot? Where do I go?
The first step is to reach out to us. We want to make sure we are there to direct and receive the donation. That is why we encourage all first time donors to reach out to us directly for the address and a date/time window. If you are a crew that expects recurring donation drop-offs, we can set up that person with long-term access 24/7.
